Becks looking sweet
David Beckham is to be given a blockbuster new contract to end his career with Real Madrid.
New Real president Ramon Calderon and boss Fabio Capello are set to offer the former England skipper a three-year deal.
And Becks, 31, will pocket a far bigger slice of his image rights — taking his earnings to a staggering £25 million a year.
The midfield star’s international career could be over after he resigned as skipper in tears after England’s defeat by Portugal.
But he will continue in a leading role under Capello, who has taken charge after quitting Juventus.
And Calderon has made tying down Beckham until 2009 a priority before the new season.
Becks, who has one year left on his current deal, will remain on a basic annual salary of £4million after tax. Calderon said: “I want him here for ever — or at least for the next three years.
"I have not spoken to him yet and he is now on holiday with his family — but is due back on July 21 and I will speak to him then."
Beckham’s injury-plagued team-mate Jonathan Woodgate, 26, must report fit for pre-season training on Monday or he will be offloaded.
The £13.4m centre-back will be given one last chance to prove he has recovered from his injuries.
